Range Rover Evoque Ember debuts with latest infotainment tech

New special edition also marks the debut of Land Rover's latest infotainment system in the hard-topped Evoques

21 Apr 2016

The Range Rover Evoque's styling has remained fresh in the five years since its launch, but that hasn't stopped Land Rover from bolstering the range with new special edition models – of which the Ember Special Edition is the latest.

Based on the Evoque HSE Dynamic, the Ember edition features a two-tone look with a Santorini Black body colour and contrasting Firenze Red roof (hence 'Ember', geddit?).

The striking red theme is carried over to the Evoque's front and rear bumper elements and also finds its way inside, where the black leather seats have 'Pimento Red' stitching and red highlights can be found below the centre console and on the door trims, and surrounding the floor mats.

Elsewhere there's black 'Evoque' tailgate badging with a silver surround, and futher black lettering on the bonnet. The wheels are also black – and 20-inches in diameter – as are the exhaust finishers and grille. The front and rear lights have a darkened finish to complete the look.

Along with the new Ember model, the Evoque coupe and five-door also gain JLR's new InControl Touch Pro infotainment system, as debuted in the Evoque Convertible.

It's standard on HSE Dynamic, HSE Dynamic Lux and Autobiography models, and uses a 10.2-inch screen that responds to smartphone-style pinching and swiping motions, for a more intuitive interface.

The screen is of higher resolution too, and features the ability to pre-plan destinations on a smartphone app and send them to the car. The navigation system also plans journeys door-to-door, so if your route involves some public transport or pedestrian access, it can factor that into the journey time.

Meanwhile, the Range Rover Evoque SE Tech gets 12-way powered seats, automatic high beams and a £33,000 starting price. Models with InControl Touch Pro start at £41,400, while the new Ember model – available to order for only three months – starts at £47,200.

The range of engines remains as before: 148 and 177bhp Ingenium diesels, and a 237bhp Si4 turbocharged petrol.
